# Tirzepatide: Uses, Weekly Injection and Safety Tirzepatide is a prescription medicine that activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. The approved use depends on the exact product and country-specific label. A diabetes indication, an obesity indication and general information about the molecule must not be treated as interchangeable. ## How tirzepatide works Tirzepatide supports glucose-dependent insulin release, reduces glucagon when glucose is elevated, slows gastric emptying and can reduce appetite. It is injected under the skin once weekly.
