# Urine Albumin-Creatinine Ratio (UACR): Kidney Test Explained Urine albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR) compares albumin with creatinine in a spot urine sample. The ratio helps adjust for urine concentration and can detect albumin leakage, an early sign of kidney damage. ## In simple terms Healthy kidneys usually keep most albumin in the blood. Damaged filters may allow albumin into urine. UACR is different from serum creatinine and eGFR: UACR looks for kidney damage, while eGFR estimates filtration. Both can be informative. Exercise, fever, infection, menstruation, marked hyperglycaemia and other temporary factors can affect a sample.
