# Gallbladder Disease: Symptoms and GLP-1 Relevance

Gallbladder disease is a broad term for conditions affecting the gallbladder or bile flow. It includes [gallstones](/glossary/gallstones), gallbladder inflammation and other biliary problems. Symptoms and treatment depend on the exact condition.

## In simple terms
The gallbladder stores bile made by the liver. A stone can block bile flow and trigger pain or inflammation, but not every gallbladder problem is caused by a stone and many gallstones cause no symptoms. Diagnosis may use history, examination, imaging and blood tests such as a [liver function test](/glossary/liver-function-test-lft).

## Why this matters for GLP-1 and metabolic health
Gallbladder events have been reported with some [GLP-1 receptor agonists](/glossary/glp-1-receptor-agonist), while obesity and rapid weight loss can also affect risk. This does not mean every episode of nausea is gallbladder disease, but new severe or persistent abdominal symptoms should not be dismissed as a routine medicine effect.

## India-specific context
The prescriber should check the current Indian product information for the exact medicine. Suspected gallbladder disease needs appropriate clinical evaluation rather than a cleanse, supplement or social-media remedy.

## When to speak with a doctor
Obtain urgent medical help for severe or lasting upper-abdominal pain, fever or chills, yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, repeated vomiting, faintness or confusion. Do not independently stop and restart a prescription medicine unless emergency services instruct you.

## FAQs
### Is gallbladder disease the same as gallstones?
No. Gallstones are one cause; the broader term includes inflammation and other biliary conditions.

### Does nausea on a GLP-1 medicine mean gallbladder disease?
No. Nausea has many causes, but severe or persistent symptoms need assessment.

### Can rapid weight loss affect gallstone risk?
Yes. Rapid weight loss is a recognised risk factor, alongside several other factors.
