# CDSCO: Role in Medicine Approval and Safety in India CDSCO is India's Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Along with state regulators, it administers important parts of the national framework for clinical trials, new-drug permissions, imports, quality oversight and medicine safety. ## In simple terms A medicine is not approved merely because a study has begun, a company has applied, or the product is sold in another country. Indian regulatory status depends on the relevant permission, product, formulation, strength, manufacturer and authorised indication. CDSCO publishes rules, notices and approval information.
